The Governor’s of Birkdale High School approached CCO to assist them in replacing their existing arts building, which had fallen into disrepair. CCO prepared a successful bid for funding from the Education & Skills Funding Agency and Phase I of the project commenced on site in November 2012.
The existing temporary building was replaced by a brand new state of the art, arts facility comprising of two new classrooms, technology area and media suite. During the design development discussions took place with the client in relation to ‘future proofing’ the building, consequently the building was designed so that a first floor could be constructed in the future when further funding became available.
CCO successfully secured further funding from the ESFA for phase II of the arts building, enabling a first floor extension to be built. The first floor accommodation consists of a drama studio, music room, resource area and music practice room, which has doubled the amount of teaching space available for the arts.
