Sixth Form Centre The Bishops' Blue Coat CE High School, Chester

About project

Type:  New Build

Value:  £1.4m

Completion: 2015

This new sixth form building at Bishops’ Blue Coat C of E High School provides modern teaching accommodation for the academy’s sixth form students. Funding for this project was secured by CCO from the Education & Skills Funding Agency as a result of a successful Condition Improvement Bid. The expansion project replaced a dilapidated temporary classroom building which was beyond economic repair.

The L shaped building which was both designed and project managed on site by CCO sits comfortably alongside the other stand alone buildings within the academy’s ‘campus’ style grounds. The glazed curtain walling surrounding the building entrance allows the internal circulation routes to be viewed by students entering the building, whilst the surrounding trees and soft landscaping are reflected on to the glass.

The new teaching accommodation allows the students to benefit from modern teaching facilities and will also enable the sixth form students to study and socialise within the same building. The classrooms benefit from generously sized windows, which create light and airy teaching spaces with views over the extensive school campus grounds.
