Dining Room Building Castleford Three Lane Ends Academy, Wakefield

About project

Type:  New Build

Value:  £410k

Completion:  2017

CCO successfully secured Condition Improvement Funding from the Education & Skills Funding Agency to replace Castleford Three Lane End’s dilapidated post WWII HORSA hut structure which acted as the school’s main dining and kitchen facilities.

The practice then designed and project managed the works on site through to completion. Particular care had to be taken when designing the new building due to its close proximity to a neighbouring Grade II listed building. The new dining room building adopts a traditional design with contemporary elements and reflects the local context something which was key to the client.

The new dining room provides a large open plan dining area sufficient in size to accommodate the number of pupils per lunch sitting. Services are located along each end of the building with the kitchen, food store and staff facilities located at one end of the building and pupil toilets and chair store located at the opposite end of the building.

The new dining room is a major step forward in the school’s development plan and will enhance the existing accommodation by providing a fit for purpose dining and kitchen facility for this growing school.
