Classroom Extension & Alteration Works Patterdale C of E Primary School, Cumbria

About project

Type:  Extension

Value:  £318k

Completion:  2009

In 2009 CCO completed a redevelopment project for this small primary school situated in the picturesque area of the Lake District National Park, which has recently been named a Unesco World Heritage site. The original school building dates back to 1873 and consists of a traditional stone facade and pitched slate roofs.

The works comprised of the construction of a single storey pitched roof extension to the side elevation of the main school building to accommodate a new classroom. Adaptations and internal alterations were also carried out as part of the project to form a new office, staffroom and library.

The extension utilises traditional stonework which is in keeping with the materiality of the existing school building and surrounding Lake District area. The works provide a modern addition to the existing building which takes full advantage of the outstanding views over the Ullswater Valley.
