CCO successfully secured Condition Improvement Funding (CIF) from the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) to carry out a vital roof refurbishment project at Bacup & Rawtentstall Grammar School. The original school building dates back to 1913 and the majority of the pitched roof coverings are the original slate tiles. The school building is located on an elevated site within the foothills of the Pennine Range consequently, the school building is exposed to severe inclement weather. Deficiencies with the slate work including slipped and broken tiles coupled with the poor condition of the lead detailing was causing significant water ingress internally within the school.
The CIF funding secured by CCO have enabled the completion of major roof refurbishment project at the school, with CCO providing building surveying and full project management services for the works. The project involved the renewal of the existing lead flashings, valleys, soakers and aprons, provision of new underfelt and insulation and replacement of damaged slate roof tiles.
The refurbishment of the roof has ensured that the features of this landmark local building are maintained and further damage to the building fabric is prevented, ensuring the grammar school building is kept in use for many more years to come.
