School Based Nursery Funding

October 28, 2026

We have supported a number of our clients in securing funding through the DfE’s School-Based Nursery (SBN) programme, as well as managing the delivery of building works on site through to successful completion. The school-based nursery (SBN) programme aims to help more families access early years provision by creating or expanding a school-based nursery in state-funded primary-phase schools, maintained nursery schools and on Best Start Family Hub sites.

We have worked closely with our clients to support their applications for the School-Based Nursery Capital Grant, helping them identify their requirements, develop project proposals and budget costings and plan the improvements needed to create suitable nursery accommodation. By working collaboratively from the outset, we help our clients establish a clear understanding of their project requirements and develop proposals that reflect the aspirations for their nursery whilst taking into account the practical considerations of delivering building works within an existing school environment.

Depending on the individual site and the needs of the school, projects may involve internal alterations to make more effective use of existing teaching accommodation, extensions to existing buildings or the construction of standalone nursery facilities. Each option presents its own opportunities and challenges, requiring careful consideration of the available space, layout, programme, budget and the specific needs of the children and staff who will use the facilities.

Our involvement extends beyond the funding application stage. Once funding has been secured, we provide a full project management services including procurement, tendering the works, health & safety, statutory compliance, monitoring progress, liaising with contractors to ensure that the works remain aligned with the agreed scope, programme and budget.

By providing continuity from the initial funding proposal through to the delivery and handover of the completed facilities, we help clients navigate the complexities of the process and turn their plans into practical, deliverable projects.

From securing funding to managing the works on site, we help clients turn their nursery development plans into completed projects — delivering practical solutions that make a lasting difference to schools, children and families.
