Phase 1 Works Complete at The Freedom Centre

June 4, 2020

Phase 1 of the refurbishment works have now been completed at the Freedom Centre in Blackpool. Cowan & Co have worked closely with the Parochial Church Council on the project to refurbish the former St Wilfrid’s church hall which has been vacant and un-used for around 5 years. The PCC’s aim is to complete a total refurbishment of the building and re-open the former church hall as the Freedom Centre, a community centre for the Mereside Estate.

The first phase of the refurbishment works have been concentrated on the external fabric of the building. As part of the works the existing flat roofs have been completely refurbished, new high level windows have been installed along with replacement rainscreen cladding.

The external refurbishment works have made the building watertight and will ensure that no further damage to the internal building fabric occurs. The next stage of the project will be to compete the internal refurbishment of the building to create a community hub for the local residents. We are excited to see how this project progresses over the next few months and to begin phase 2 of the project which will see the Freedom Centre open to serve the community.
