Planning Approval Granted in the Lake District
January 30, 2018
Planning approval has been secured for a new two storey classroom building for Keswick School in Cumbria. The new building will provide this popular and successful school with additional classrooms to accommodate growing pupil numbers. The works also include internal remodelling and refurbishment works to the school’s existing science labs located within the main school building.
The new building has been designed to sit well with existing adjacent school buildings. The building’s elevational appearance has been designed as a contemporary reflection of the architectural style of neighbouring buildings. The new building features a similar palette of materials to that of the existing building with large areas of glazing to maximise natural daylight.
The location of the new building is on a prominent position on the elevated school site and benefits from outstanding views of the Lake District National Park. In light of the recent designation of the Lake District National Park as a Unesco World Heritage Site, careful consideration was given to the final design of the new building to ensure it respects and enhances the surrounding landscape.Work is expected to start on site in Easter 2018.
