Building Refurbishment & Remodelling Cloughwood Academy, Cheshire
About project
Type: Refurbishment Phase 1
Value: £367k
Completion: 2022
Cloughwood Academy is a day and residential school for boys aged 8 to 18. Pupils attending the school have a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Over the years the way the school uses the building has changed with less of a requirement for residential accommodation. The school approached CCO to assist in redeveloping some of the now redundant residential buildings into new teaching spaces to expand their curriculum to include new T Level courses.
Three of the existing empty bungalows on site which formerly acted as staff accommodation have now been completely re-modelled and refurbished to provide T-Level teaching accommodation for the teaching of construction, catering and car mechanics. Existing rooms have been knocked through to create large open plan spaces, the existing roof structure has been exposed to increase the ceiling height, M&E installation has been upgraded, re- decoration works including new flooring and new equipment and fitted storage have been installed
The new teaching spaces provide T-Level students with both practical teaching areas and classroom spaces. The practical teaching areas provide students with opportunities to learn hands on industry skills which prepares students for work, further training or study. Due to the great success of the refurbishment a second phase of refurbishment works are planned for later this year to convert more of the redundant residential accommodation to provide teaching space for T-Levels in health & beauty and education and childcare.
