About project
Type: New Build
Value: £2.5m
Completion: 2009
CCO were involved with the exciting new build sixth form centre at Ripley St Thomas, from inception to practical completion. The consultancy successfully secured capital funding for the project from the Local Authority and were also commissioned to act as lead consultants on the project undertaking both design and project management roles.
The new sixth form centre is located within the grounds of the existing school site, one initially challenging obstacle in moving the project forward was securing planning approval. CCO overcame this obstacle through working closely with the local planners to mitigate any concerns.
The building features a palette of materials which includes lightly coloured stonework, neutral render and grey rainscreen cladding panels with curtain walling and generous glazing throughout. The building itself is divided into three blocks with a 300 seat lecture theatre at the heart of the building with two teaching blocks extending along each side. Within the building entrance foyer there is a feature spiral staircase which acts as the main circulation route for the building. Other accommodation provided within the building includes; state of the art classrooms, IT suites, large dining area & kitchen, study facilities, common room.
The sixth form centre was officially opened by the Archbishop of York, John Sentamu in April 2009.
