Library & Resource Building St Michael's C of E High School, Chorley
About project
Type: New Build
Value: £420k
Completion: 2015
CCO were approached by St Michael’s C of E High School to design a new landmark building to act as a lasting tribute to the academy’s 50th anniversary.
The project brief was to create a modern learning environment for the academy. The library and resource centre comprises of an open plan library and independent study space, the mezzanine floor houses an interactive study and teaching area. The modular furniture used on the ground floor allows the double height space to be customised to suit different activities such as chapel services and assembles.
The form of this infill extension is driven by the existing building lines with the predominately glazed facade reflecting an earlier curtain walling project at the school also carried out by CCO. The maroon cladding colour references the school colours with complimentary grey tones used elsewhere.
The library and resource centre was officially opened by the Bishop of Blackburn, The Right Reverend Julian Henderson in October 2015 as part of the school’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
